    Dr. Anjelica Mazzella, BSC, DC

Dr. Mazzella obtained a Bachelor of Science degree with Honours in Kinesiology from Laurentian University. She always aspired to become a health care professional, but was uncertain as to which career path to take. It was not until her final year of university, that Dr. Mazzella would be introduced into the chiropractic profession through an unfortunate car accident. Like most, she was hesitant, skeptical, and unaware of chiropractic, and how it could become apart of her health care and wellbeing. However, after personally experiencing the relief, and benefits first-hand, she knew that this profession was the perfect fit for her. In 2015 she graduated with clinical honours from Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, and is currently the owner of Back 2 Health Rehabilitation Centre in Sudbury’s Southend. Dr. Mazzella is also certified in Active Release Techniques (ART), and Contemporary Medical Acupuncture (CMAcP) through McMaster University.

From her thorough initial assessment to individualized exercise rehabilitation programs, Dr. Mazzella is heavily invested about each of her patients achieving optimal health and wellness. As an evidence-based practitioner she believes in accurately identifying and treating the origin of discomfort. She stresses on the importance of ensuring patients receive appropriate treatment, guidance, and education pertaining to their condition.

On a personal note Dr. Mazzella was an avid athlete at an early age, participating in a wide variety of sports. At the age of fifteen her main focus and passion for soccer lead her to play both at provincial and varsity levels. When not at work, she can be seen running, or weight lifting in the gym! She is an active member of the Sudbury community and is a firm believer of setting an example for her patients.

Dr. Mazzella is a member of the Canadian Chiropractic Association, Ontario Chiropractic Association and a member in good standing with the College of Chiropractors of Ontario.

    Dr. Natasha Jakelski BSC, DC

Dr. Jakelski enjoys working in her clinical practice and appreciates providing evidence-based Chiropractic care alongside many traditional and allied medical professionals, with an emphasis on rehabilitation and lifestyle education. Through her post-secondary education, she worked in a variety of clinical and athletic settings, which included school clinics, community clinics, and as a team trainer for the Laurentian Voyageurs Men’s Varsity Basketball Team.

When she isn’t working Dr. Natasha enjoys spending time in the gym and outdoors. She is involved in a variety of athletic and social activities, including running and hiking, skiing and snowboarding, golf, snowshoeing, swimming, cross country skiing, and gardening. She enjoys bridging the gap between clinical knowledge and athletic and leisure activity participation, and bringing her knowledge of various sports and activities into the clinic setting to help her patients.

Dr. Natasha Jakelski is a practicing chiropractor in Sudbury, ON. She graduated as a Doctor of Chiropractic from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 2016. During her time at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, she also completed a Traditional Chinese Medicine Certificate in Acupuncture. Dr. Jakelski completed her undergraduate degree at Laurentian University where she received a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Kinesiology.

    Jerrika Rydall, BSC RMT

Jerrika graduated from University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree in Kinesiology. While working as a teaching assistant within the cadaver lab, she became intrigued with how interconnected the human body is and realized her passion in human anatomy.

Jerrika relies on massage therapy as a form of relief, most commonly for chronic migraines, sports related injuries, and to help with managing stress. She attended a variety of massage therapy conferences, and became certain that a career in this field would be rewarding. She pursed her dream, and in 2020 graduated with honours from Georgian College accredited Massage Therapy program.

She is passionate to help the Sudbury community. Her treatments are designed to restore movement, alleviate pain, and provide wellness. In her opinion, the importance of a full assessment to identify the cause of discomfort, employing a variety of techniques according to the condition, educating the patient, and providing an appropriate remedial exercise program, are all equally important parts of your treatment!

In the Sudbury community she leads by example and is a well-rounded therapist. She taught dance for several years, became a varsity strength and conditioning coach, and continued her journey as a personal training specialist, which she still does today! In her spare time, you will find Jerrika running trails in Sudbury or lifting weights at the gym! She is a competitive Spartan obstacle course racer, avid baseball player, and loves a good camping weekend! She was born and raised in Espanola and is happy to be living closer to home since graduation! She is ecstatic to become an active member within the Sudbury community and is proud to be a part of the Back 2 Health Team!

    What Is Chiropractic?

Chiropractors practice a drug-free, manual approach to health care that includes patient assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. In particular, chiropractors assess patients for disorders related to the spine, pelvis, extremities, and their effect on the nervous system. The chiropractors at Back 2 Health Rehabilitation Centre implement the Diversified Chiropractic Technique. They provide comprehensive care and use a combination of chiropractic adjustments, modalities, myofascial release therapy, acupuncture and/or exercise prescription to help you achieve optimal health.

Chiropractors treat problems related to the musculoskeletal system. You do not always have to be in pain to consult a chiropractor.  You may be interested in prevention, wanting to learn more about your body, or improving your quality of life.  These are all good reasons to consider consulting a chiropractor.

    What is a chiropractic adjustment?

Chiropractors are highly skilled in the hands-on art of spinal adjustment.  An adjustment involves applying a specific force in a precise direction to a joint that is causing pain. The purpose of the adjustment is to help restore motion or mobility, often relieving pain.

What is that “noise” generated following an adjustment?

Treatment may include manipulation of joints, with the goal of decreasing discomfort by improving movement and function within that joint.  When a joint is adjusted, there is a natural change in the internal pressure of that joint.  This change results in the release of gas normally dissolved in the fluid, which lubricates the joint.  The release of this gas may produce a "popping" sound similar to that produced when you open a can of soda.

    Is chiropractic safe?

Research continues to support the safety and efficacy of chiropractic treatment.  Chiropractors are holistic practitioners, which means that we do not prescribe medication or perform surgery. As each patient is unique, each treatment and each adjustment is unique as well.  Everyone is different, and we make sure that your treatment plan is structured specifically to suit your needs to get you Back 2 Health!

    What is contemporary medical acupuncture?

Contemporary medical acupuncture is a specific type of nerve stimulation technique designed to help modulate abnormal activity of the nervous system. It uses fine solid needles (acupuncture needles) that are inserted into different anatomical locations. The locations of the needles are considered neuro-functional sites, which can be stimulated manually or with electricity to help modulate pain. Treatments are individualized and structured to treat neurological dysfunction related to the clinical presentation of symptoms.

    Who can benefit from acupuncture?

Acupuncture can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions. At Back 2 Health Rehabilitation Centre, we focus on the neuro-musculo-skeletal system with our primary emphasis on improving mobility and function, while decreasing pain.

Acupuncture can be used to treat many different types of conditions including:

    Low Level Laser Therapy

Low-level laser therapy is the application of red and near-infrared light over injuries or wounds to improve soft tissue healing and relieve both acute and chronic pain. Low-level therapy uses cold (sub-thermal) laser light energy to direct bio-stimulative light energy to the body’s cells without injuring or damaging them in any way. The therapy is precise and accurate, offering safe and effective treatment for a wide variety of conditions

    Electrical Muscle Stimulation

This type of device is commonly used for rehabilitation, muscle training, and prevention of disuse muscle atrophy that may occur after injuries to bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons.

    Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS)

This device uses electric current to help stimulate nerves for therapeutic purposes. It helps with nerve irritation and is commonly used to help decrease pain.

    Interferential Current (IFC)

This modality is essentially a deeper form of TENS. It also helps with pain relief, muscle stimulation, increased local blood flow and reduction of edema.

Therapeutic ultrasound is the use of sound waves to help treat musculokeletal injuries. This device helps speed up the healing process, increase blood flow, and provide a gentle massage of muscles tendons and ligaments in the area. The overall effect of ultrasound is to decrease pain and reduce swelling or edema in the area. Treatments take between 3-5 minutes.

The Chiropractors at Back 2 Health Rehabilitation Centre are certified MRT providers. Active release technique (ART ®) is a different type of soft tissue system that is more comprehensive in managing your diagnosis. It can be used to target problematic soft tissue adhesions or ‘scarring’.

This type of soft tissue technique can be used to treat a variety of conditions including; acute/chronic tight musculature, overuse injuries, trauma, peripheral nerve entrapments, surgical scar tissue, and adhesions. IASTT also has the ability to increase blood flow to and from the area to get you Back 2 Health quickly.

What is shockwave? This therapy is used to speed up the recovery process in the body. It does this by stimulating your metabolism, while increasing blood circulation to aid in regenerating damaged tissue. Strong pulses of energy are applied to the area that has been affected to aid in stimulating cells in the body that are responsible for tissue healing.
